Nokia N97 Black
The Nokia N97 in black’s design is similar to the Google G1 and the iPhone. The touchscreen is 3.5 inches and dominates the whole front of the phone. There is a button on the left that is a shortcut button to all the different N series multimedia applications and the call, receive and end keys are all touch sensitive. There is a regular headphone jack on top of the N97 and a slide out keyboard. Because of this it is a little thicker than the iPhone.
The keyboard is solid looking and the display is angled about 40 degrees to it so it is easy to type. The keys are well spaced but they need to be pressed quite hard and there are no number keys.
Just like the Nokia 5800 the N97 has a resistive touchscreen and shows colours with a high resolution. Unlike the iPhone’s touchscreen though this one needs pressure when selecting icons. The screen is clear and vibrant but not as sharp as some of its competitors such as the HTC Touch Diamond 2.
The N97 also offers quad-band world roaming, conference calling, speed dial, text messaging, multimedia messaging, voice-command support and a lot more. It has Bluetooth 2.0 which supports mono and stereo Bluetooth headsets, hands free kits, object push, file transfer, dial-up networking and audio/video remote control.
Going online is easy with integrated Wi-Fi and tri-band HSDPA. The web browser is good and offers different page views and keyword search but zooming in and out of pages does seem odd in comparison to the iPhone and Palm Pre.
The Nokia N97 has the same 5 megapixel camera as the N96. It boasts a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with dual LED flash, 4x digital zoom and autofocus. On top of this there are advanced features such as light sensitivity, exposure, geo tagging and colour tone. And it records MPEG-4 videos at excellent resolution.
